Climate.us named NCSE Friend of the Planet for 2026

Climate.us is among the winners of the National Center for Science Education (NCSE) Friend of the Planet award for 2026. NCSE granted the award in recognition that Climate.us, led by Rebecca Lindsey, “preserves and extends climate content censored from the federal government's websites.”

Climate.us has been built by former members of the team behind the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Climate.gov website, which was effectively shut down in 2025. Climate.us is an independent, nonprofit climate information website that meets popular demand for reliable climate information.

Founded in 1982, NCSE originally focused on protecting the teaching of biological evolution in public school science classrooms. Thirty years later, NCSE expanded its mission to protect the teaching of climate change, recognizing that climate education faced similar threats as evolution education. NCSE’s mission is to “ensure that what is taught in science classrooms and beyond is accurate and consistent with the best current understanding of the scientific community.”

Other winners of the NCSE Friend of the Planet award for 2026 include Miranda Massie, the director of the Climate Museum; and Benjamin Santer, a distinguished climate scientist and a former member of NCSE's board of directors.
